Controlling weeds without the use of herbicides or soil fumigating is not easy. We use different strategies in different situations.
  • CULTIVATION: Some of our annual crops are planted so that they can be cultivated with the tractor. This helps with the bulk of the weeds between rows.

  • MULCHING: Straw, wood chips and planting paper are all good mulches. This technique also helps with water conservation.

  • MOWING: A mixture of grasses and legumes form a living mulch in some perennial beds. Mowing controls weeds as the plants build the soil and increase diversity of the ecosystem.
