   We don’t typically have an enormous problem with insect getting out of control yet here are some of the ways we put the odds in our favor to control outbreaks;
  • NATURAL REPELLENTS: Garlic spray and hot pepper wax are our two primary insecticides. Both work well as repellants. The last resort in a major outbreak is a soap based spray which will kill some insects such as aphids.

  • ROW COVERS: Another preventative ploy we use is row covers. By making the herbs inaccessible to the insects damage is kept to a minimum.

  • NATURAL PREDATORS: For several years we have been releasing lady bugs and preying mantises and setting up habitats to attract parasitic wasps,bluebirds,swallows and martins. From a neighboring pond, we have a gaggle of geese that make a daily walkthrough in search of grasshoppers.
