Shenandoah Growers Announces Full Production in Florida
April 22, 2002, Harrisonburg, Virginia -- Shenandoah Growers announced this week that its McAlpin, Florida herb growing and packing operations are now in full production. Construction of the Florida production facilities began in July 2001. This facility is strategically located near the intersection of Interstates 75 and 10.
Coupled with Shenandoah Growers' original Shenandoah Valley, Virginia location, the addition of the southern facility positions the company among the top three fresh herb suppliers on the East Coast. Shenandoah Growers now sells fresh herbs to major retail chain customers from New York to Florida.
The McAlpin, Florida farm acreage and green houses assure all Shenandoah Growers' customers a year-round supply of fresh herbs. It also provides the company with closer access to customers in the Southeast. Shenandoah Growers intends to continue to increase production at both its operations to better supply the increasing demand for fresh herbs.
Fully aware that discerning consumers demand the freshest possible herbs, Shenandoah Growers' ground-based refrigerated transportation at both facilities delivers herbs to customers within hours of cutting, a key and unique competitive edge for retail and foodservice customers and consumers. This temperature controlled processing and transportation assures the freshest taste and longest shelf life.
Headquartered in Harrisonburg, Virginia since 1989, Shenandoah Growers provides a full line of fresh herbs, fresh herb blends and salad mixes, and edible flowers under its Shenandoah Growers® and Kateri's® brand labels to retail and foodservice customers. The Shenandoah Growers® Fresh Herbs and herb blends are sold in ¾ ounce clam packages to major retail grocery and warehouse operations and to foodservice. Additional and popular products include edible flowers sold in 20 count packaging and Fresh Living Basil, an entire basil plant with root system intact in a floral sleeve with UPC code and product information.
The Commonwealth of Virginia has certified Shenandoah Growers' produce "Organic Grown" and recognized its fresh herbs as "Virginia's Finest." Shenandoah Growers' consumer-oriented website www.freshherbs.com offers seasonal recipes and cooking tips for using fresh herbs.
