Shenandoah Growers was founded in 1989 to bring fresh culinary herbs to the East Coast marketplace as a healthy and natural way to make food taste better. The company is now one of the top providers of fresh herbs in the United States.
Founders Mike Sarco, Ken Koehn and his wife Diana, met in Africa while working in agricultural development programs and established Shenandoah Growers upon their return to America. They created a company committed to environmental stewardship and community development. Today Shenandoah Growers strives to be the fresh herbs expert, positioned for continued growth and leadership in the industry.
With a strategic plan for growth in place at a time when discerning consumers are demanding convenient, healthy food products, Shenandoah Growers has grown steadily since 1998. Ground-based refrigerated transportation delivers herbs to customers within hours of cutting, a key and unique competitive edge for retail and foodservice customers and consumers. This temperature controlled processing and transportation assures the freshest taste and longest shelf life.
The Commonwealth of Virginia designated Shenandoah Growers® as part of the Virginia’s finest program and the company’s top-quality herbs are now sold under Kateri’s® and Fresh Herbs brand names to major Supermarket chains and Foodservice companies. Potted herb plants and living basil are also produced at the scenic Shenandoah Valley of Virginia and in one Florida location.
Shenandoah Growers is designated a Virginia’s Finest Grower by the Virginia Department of Agriculture and a Fresh from Florida Grower by the Florida Department of Agriculture.
