Basil Spiked Ice Tea

Basil-spiked Iced Tea

A deliciously different way to take your iced tea!  Basil, lime, and simple syrup can all be adjusted to taste.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups water
  • 4 black tea bags
  • 1 cup tightly packed chopped, fresh basil leaves
  • 1 cup lime juice
  • simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water, heated until sugar dissolves completely)
  • ice

Instructions

  1. Bring water to a boil and then steep tea bags and basil for an hour or until tea comes to room temperate. When cool, remove tea bags and strain out basil leaves. Stir in lime juice, and then chill in refrigerator until ready to serve. Pour over ice and add simple syrup to taste.

Variations

Sub in mint or lemon verbena in place of basil for a different take on iced tea.

Time: 30 minutes active prep time (which includes making simple syrup) 5 hours inactive prep time

My family really liked this iced tea. We will definitely make it again! The basil is not strong and gives it a fresh taste.
